5 Events in Henderson You Don't Dare Miss
Between the Downtown area, the state parks, the local clubs, and the local foodies, you'll never run out of things to do if you move into an apartment in Henderson.
Here are 5 of our favorite events:
1. The WC Handy Blues & Barbecue Festival
Henderson locals know to clear their calendars in mid-June because that's when the biggest festival of the year takes place! Grab some camping chairs or a blanket and head out to Audubon Mill Park to enjoy what the locals call "the center of the Blues universe". This festival is so big that it was named one of the Top 20 Events in the Southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society.
In addition to more than a dozen great musicians, you'll get to feast on the very best local barbecue. Just don't overdo it on the first night! This festival features four nights of concerts, and it would be a shame to spend any of them inside your apartment.
2. The Chocolate Walk
This event debuted in 2015, but it has quickly become a local favorite. When you consider that this event combines chocolate and shopping, it's easy to see why! A few days before Valentine's Day, a number of local store owners open up their doors to offer free chocolate goodies and big discounts. So whether you're shopping for a gift for your sweetie or you simply want to indulge your sweet tooth, this is a great way to do it!
3. Tri-Fest
On the third weekend of every April, Downtown Henderson turns into a giant non-profit fundraiser called Tri-Fest. Between the local schools, churches, and other non-profit organizations, there are plenty of organizations in need -- and you can have a great time helping them!
Tri-Fest offers 5K runs, bowling events, bike rides, magic shows, fireworks, and a near-endless array of yummy munchies, so no matter what your idea of fun is, you'll find it here.
4. The Lions Arts and Crafts Festival
Hosted by the Henderson Lions' Club every October, this festival showcases pieces and demonstrations by the area's best artists. You can go from booth to booth, oohing and ahhing over all the local talent. Plus, there is plenty of great food to keep you fueled all day long.
5. River Heritage Day
For one day each summer, Audubon State Park hosts River Heritage Day -- complete with a fishing tournament, fun encounters with live animals, storytellers for the kids, a paddle race, a corn hole tournament, a Dream Car Museum exhibit, and more. Be sure to work up an appetite, because once the sun starts to set, there's a giant catfish fry!
